Caleb Jamel Brown solo exhibition & Holiday Group Show - 2nd Annual Open Call

Opening Reception 12/6 7-10PM

Trench is the second coming of SweatStudy EP, presented at Baba Yaga Gallery, Hudson, NY on September 25. This body of work traces the impossibility of reckoning with loss in the illustrative–A cartographic refusal, where representation slips, fragments, and reconstitutes itself against erasure. The revamped Installation of photographs, prints, assemblage, and sculptural interventions. Accompany a suite of drawings spanning the last five years, as well as clothing and painting collaborations with Rawbeas.

Many of the works are on paper, layered, stitched, and bound with upholstery floss—held together just enough to thrive. They inhabit an indemnitary space, always on their way to becoming in pursuit of form. These objects ramble and rupture, speaking in harmony with lapse. Hands. Precarity standing in opposition to the slow erosion of memory.

Ashy ankles

dwelling in the threshold,

Mid-formation,

Mid-gesture.

They wander,

They hum in the key of interruption. The slow erosion. Regime collapse

Truth only exists outside the frame..

Belief and desire become provisional–hung out to dry under the star, drenched in smoke. Ideals do not shatter cleanly; they splinter, the way a fortune cookie cracks unevenly in the hand.I’m not myself on the days I jump the puddle and scrape my knee. Every other day is choreography on repeat .Every other day on repeat. Winter reiterates that there is no redemption for what we once knew—only the lingering grey puddle of pursuit.
